Spicy Breadfruit Fries

Spicy Breadfruit Fries are a delicious and unique alternative to traditional potato fries. Here’s a recipe to make them:

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized breadfruit
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust according to your spice tolerance)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: chopped fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the Breadfruit: Cut the breadfruit into quarters and remove the core and skin. Slice the quarters into fry-shaped sticks, approximately 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Boil the Fries: In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the breadfruit fries and boil for about 10 minutes or until they are just tender but not too soft. Drain the fries and let them dry for a few minutes.
  4. Season the Fries: In a large bowl, toss the boiled breadfruit fries with olive oil, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Ensure all fries are evenly coated.
  5. Bake the Fries: Spread the seasoned breadfruit fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Flip the fries halfway through baking to ensure even cooking.
  6. Serve: Remove the fries from the oven and, if desired, sprinkle with fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro for added flavor and color. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
