The African breadfruit (Treculia africana), highly valued by the Ibo ethnic group in Southeast Nigeria and used in traditional medicine, remains underutilized despite its nutritional and medicinal potential. While it is a staple in West and Central Africa, it’s less explored scientifically and overshadowed by more researched Moraceae family members, despite its importance during crises such as the 1983 Ghanaian famine.
